1917-1919 Activated 9 October at Quantico, Virginia. Relocated during November 1917 to Texas for duty along the Mexican border. Relocated during April 1919 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Deactivated 25 April, 1919. 1920-1925 Reactivated 5 January 1920 at Port-Au-Prince, Haiti for operations against Dissidents. Deactivated 1 July, 1925
1940-1949 Reactivated 1 April 1940 at San Diego, California. Deployed during October 1942 to American Samoa. The 8th Marines participated in the following WW II Campaigns, GUADALCANAL, TARAWA, SAIPAN, TINIAN and held in reserve for OKINAWA. Deployed 1945 for the occupation of Japan. Relocated June-July 1946 to CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina. Deactivated October 1949.
1950-1984 Reactivated August 1950 at CAMP LEJEUNE, assigned to the 2nd MARINE DIVISION. Participated in landings in LEBANON. The CUBAN MISSLE CRISIS in 1962. Elemnts participated in the intervention of the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC in June 1965. Held numerous Training Exercises throughout the 1970's and 1980's. The Multi-National Peace-Keeping Force in Lebanon. Elements participated in the landings at GRENADA in 1983.
1990- Participated in OPERATION DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. Elements involved with Refugee Control at GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA on two different occasions. Elements participated in Embassy protection operations in LIBERIA and MONROVIA , AFRICA. Participated in operations in KOSOVO Elements participated in operations at VIEQUES, PUERTO RICO in April 2000. The 8th MARINE REGIMENT is an INFANTRY (GRUNT) unit. INFANTRY is the HEART and SOUL of the MARINE CORPS. I am proud to have served 14 Months with H&S COMPANY, 2nd BATTALION 8th MARINES. SEMPER-FI FELLOW GRUNTS
